Guide to New Paltz in the Fall

Updated: Oct 6, 2020

There's so many things to do in New Paltz, especially in the fall! Read my guide to learn how to make the most of your visit.

Apple Picking

I've gone Apple Picking more times than i'd like to admit this year, but I love apples and was able to make a lot of Apple Crisp! One of my favorite orchards near New Paltz is Tantilo's Farm because they have the best Apple Cider Donuts and their Apple Crisp Sundae is AMAZING.

Walkway Over the Hudson

I'm so happy I had time to go to the Walkway Over the Hudson this year. It is a 1.28 mile bridge that spans from Highland to Poughkeepsie and offers breathtaking views of the Hudson River. I went around sunset and it was gorgeous.

Pumpkin Picking and Carving

I love carving pumpkins, even though i'm not that good at it (mine is on the right). I just love everything about the fall and pumpkin carving is included in that, so I had to try it. This year I headed to Wallkill View Farm to pick out the perfect pumpkin to carve and I picked up some fresh veggies while I was there too.

There are so many places to hike in New Paltz and I wish I did more of it this fall. There are still a view weeks of fall left so I might be able to get another hike or two in, but I was able to hike the River-to-Ridge Trail and take a walk on the Wallkill Valley Rail Trai. One of my favorites is Lake Minnewaska, but I haven't been able to go yet this year.

Huguenot Street

There's a lot to see in New Paltz, including where it all began on Huguenot Street. Historic Huguenot Street offers tours for you to learn about the history of New Paltz by seeing old houses, a church, and learning about the Huguenots- the first settlers in New Paltz. If you come around Halloween they offer Haunted Tours!

Pumpkin Beer

I am obsessed with pumpkin beer. I think it's so delicious, especially with the brown sugar rim. The beer on the right is from Schatzi's Pub and the left is from P&G's, but there are so many restaurants and bars in New Paltz to choose from so you can get a pumpkin beer basically anywhere in the fall.

Take a Scenic Drive

Sometimes it's nice to not have any set plans. Just take a ride and enjoy all of the fall scenery around you and the beautiful foliage. This photo was taken while driving up towards Minnewaska on NY-299.

Have a nice trip, see you next fall!
